The most overhyped team in NFL betting probably will be the Dallas Cowboys.

On August 8th, they open up by playing the Hall of Fame Game against the Bengals. The Cowboys will likely be favored in NFL preseason odds in this game that can be seen on NBC.

The Cowboys’ well-known running back Emmitt Smith will be enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in August. Their general manager, Jerry Jones, has been vying for the Cowboys to be included in the Hall of Fame game for the first time since 1999. The weekend when 1 of their own will be inducted in the Hall of Fame seems like the perfect opportunity. It is especially touching since Emmitt Smith took part in their last Hall of Fame game back in 1999. Smith, the NFL’s all-time leading rusher with 18,355 yards, played for the Cowboys from 1990-2002 and landed a record 164 rushing touchdowns, won 4 NFL rushing titles and gained 1,000 yards in a record 11 straight seasons.

This is the first Hall of Fame game for the Cincinnati Bengals since 1988. In addition to Smith, the 2010 Hall of Fame Class includes Russ Grimm, Rickey Jackson, Dick LeBeau, Floyd Little, John Randle, and Jerry Rice.

The Cowboys will be highlighted 5 times in NFL preseason gambling in 2010. The Cowboys get an extra preseason game since they play the Hall of Fame game. They will host the Oakland Raiders 4 days after the Hall of Fame Game. They journey to San Diego and Houston the next two weeks whereas their final preseason game will be at home vs Miami.

The Cowboys are 1 of the faves to win the Super Bowl as they’re showed at 10-1 in NFL preseason odds. Dallas is a sound fave at -125 to win the NFC East. The Cowboys are directed on offense by Tony Romo who threw for 4,483 yards a year ago with 26 TDs and only 9 interceptions. Including tight end Jason Witten, he has some talented receiving choices. Miles Austin got a great season a year ago and he aims to get some help this season as defense is going to have to play with newcomer Dez Bryant. The running game is sound with Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

The Cowboys had a very sound defense in 2009 that was oftentimes overlooked. A defense that was 2nd in the league in points granted was the reason the Cowboys won 11 competitions last season. All-Pro linebacker DeMarcus Ware is a force from the outside while Terence Newman leads a sound secondary.

High anticipations might be the issue for the Cowboys this season. Owner Jerry Jones tells his team on a regular basis that this year’s Super Bowl is in Dallas and he expects his team to be there. The Cowboys are not devoid of some concerns though. Wade Phillips, who has never picked up anything, is their current head coach, and Dallas has a difficult National Football League schedule that includes reigning Super Bowl champ New Orleans and runner-up Indianapolis. Since Dallas is the most public team in the NFL, gambling the Cowboys in the preseason or in the normal season also means getting or receiving fewer points than is warranted.
