There are those among the ranks of MMA fandom that do not appreciate the UFC’s endeavors to become a really international brand and make inroads in the European market, specifically the UFC 122 probabilities competition which will be put on in Oberhausen Germany on November 13th.
And it’s not that these devotees are anti-European or anti German. It is just that the roster for this German smack down is less than ideal. As we observed last month with the UFC 120 competition put on in London England, planners are inclined to fill the fighting roster with home grown talent (or at least European talent) in an effort to develop a bigger fan base in the enormous Euro market which has so far rejected MMA as a sporting choice.
The UFC 122 gambling competition will feature 3 German fighters and several other European fighters. The main difficulty with this is that the German MMA world is comparatively small and practically none of German fighters in the UFC 122 probabilities contest are known outside of their villages or cities and especially not to most of the UFC devotees. So despite the fact that there are more Germans than normal on the card, they will not be met with more help from devotees.
The game of MMA has been met with severe critique in the country by its media and authorities. It is earlier headed to minors being banned from the 1st German UFC competition, UFC 99, and this it year it’s headed to the sport being banned from being telecast completely. The Germans have found the “extent of violence shown to be unacceptable” and so the competition will be aired by tape delay on Spike TV here in the u.s., but not at all in the country it’s in fact being put on in.
The fact that the Main Card headlining bout in the UFC 122 gambling competition highlights Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami in a competition in which the winner is not even assured a possibility at the division championship says a great deal about the talent level of the contest in Oberhausen.
But that does not essentially mean poor news for the MMA devotees wants to play the UFC 122 probabilities. While these fighters may not be quite recognized and never add up to much on the UFC fighting world, their comparable anonymity presents a lot of gambling possibility for the savvy devotees inclined to do some homework and find out a bit more about these unknown fighters.
Take for example Pascal Krauss, a German welterweight who’s slated to match Englishman Mark Scanlon on the Preliminary card. He’s 6′1″, 170 lbs and he has never lost an MMA competition in his life. He has got a best 9-0 record in MMA competition, 7 of the victories by submission. He may be next huge factor in UFC!
Why not consider Karlos Vemola, the Czech contender nicknamed the “Terminator” with a 7-1 record, who will be looking to wipe the mat with American Seth Petruzelli in the light heavyweight division.
There is lots of comparatively unknown talent out there just waiting to be discovered and bet on by MMA devotees in the impending UFC 122 Main Event.
